China honors ‘Beloved’

Iranian documentary ‘Beloved’ grabs film of the week award at the China International Green Film Week.

Iranian documentary ‘Beloved’ grabs film of the week award at the China International Green Film Week.

The doc directed by Yaser Talebi, received the Significant Film of the Week mention.

‘Beloved’ is about the difficult but favorable life of an 82-year-old mother named Firouzeh who runs a unique life in the Alborz Mountains, north of Iran.

Firouzeh hikes across the rugged landscape carrying bundles of wood and keeping cattle to make a living.

When she was a young girl, a marriage was arranged for her with an older man, with whom she had 11 children. Now, none of her children come to visit her and her attempts to get closer to them remain futile.

The 63-minute documentary has attended many global events and grabbed several awards including Special Jury Award at the Religion Today Film Festival in Italy, Best Cinematography Award at the Symi International Film Festival in Greece, The Special Prize at Slovenia’s Kranjska Gora International Film Festival and many more.

The festival’s mission is “to carry the memories via films, to protect the future via cameras”. It is a large-scale film culture event held by Chinese filmmakers to raise awareness of animal, nature and environment protection.
